Package Design Ideas

For my package design, I would like to incorporate my slogan "Find Your Healthy Place" from the last project. I have been browsing photos of women exercising to find the image that expresses Women's Health the best. I started thinking about different ways to design a magazine package that would make transportation easy and still make a statement about the magazine's content. I am thinking of using a woman doing yoga for the handle. I also found the photo below and thought about using a resistance band as the handle.

I started thinking about other fitness activities that require a band or rope. Then I found an image of a woman jumping rope and thought that the rope could also be the handle.

I was talking to a classmate about my design idea and she showed me a bag design online that had a similar idea. There are also a lot of other clever bag designs on this website:

Branding

For my branding project I created a calender with tips to advertise Women's Health Magazine. There are tips about nutrition, fitness, health, going green, fashion, beauty, and more. I created each tip based on information I found in the magazine or the website. The calender could be a tear-out from any magazine and would interest the reader because it is free information, as well as a preview of Women's Health Magazine. The front of the calender is a "healthy rainbow" of fruits and vegetables. The slogan "Find Your Healthy Place" alludes to the saying "Find your happy place." Rainbows symbolize happiness, peacefulness, and hope, which is a perfect fit for Women's Health Magazine. The magazine focuses on your inside just as much as the outside.

Postcard

My object is Women's Health Magazine so I wanted my postcard to reflect tranquility, peace of mind, and fitness. I used prisma colored pencils and water colors. The bright colors help this postcard pop and the artistic hand-drawn touch is something you don't see in everyday postcards.

Favorite Blog Review

http://travelsketch.blogspot.com/

This blogger from London travels with her sketchbook everywhere and posts her artwork on the blog. This blog stood out to me because the concept was simple- she sketches her experiences. This was a breath of fresh air after viewing many over-complicated blogs with random posts that were hard to follow if you are just jumping in. Some of her sketches are very resolved and some are simpler, but they all have the same unique style which I admire. She has a very light and delicate hand and includes interesting little details in every drawing. I am inspired by her ability to sketch spontaneously and rather quickly- I am somewhat of a perfectionist and I would like to learn to sketch more freely while maintaining technique and character. I enjoy the diversity of her sketches; the subjects include landscapes and landmarks all over Europe, and everyday scenes as well.
